The History

We saw the limited launch and recovery options on the Dart due to limited parking and very few public slipways and decided with a mile of river frontage on the farm to diversify in this direction. Blackness Marine was supported under the England Rural Development Programme by DEFRA and the European Agricultural Guidance and guarantee fund as a diversification project which would not have been possible without a partial Rural Development Service Grant to promote farm diversification, so thank you to all at RDS. Our initial planning application was backed up by a survey done by Devon Wildlife Trust and we had input from the Environment Agency and English Nature. We are also members of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme.

Our ethos is to offer boaters a simpler option. For those who are unable to get a mooring due to lengthy waiting lists, who want their pride and joy to be kept out of the water when not in use to minimise deteriortion BLACKNESS MARINE is here. Pick a package to best suit your needs at our yard which as well as providing secure storage of your boat, also offers in house servicing and all other aspects of boat management.

Since starting up, we have evolved and as of 2010 we have a new pontoon to enable safer and easier launching. We have also invested in Drystack to accommodate the demand for our Launch & Recovery Membership - we bought Drystack to the Dart! Our customers return year on year and the customer base is growing with a wide demographic from members, locals needing access to their moorings, visiting trailer sailors and basic winter/summer storage, craneage and maintenance.
